Birmingham man falls victim to Bitcoin scam

A senior resident of Birmingham became one of the city’s latest victims to fall for a Bitcoin scam costing him about $20,000.
The man reported to Birmingham police on Friday, May 2, that about two weeks earlier, he saw an unauthorized charge on his bank statement which he tried to dispute by clicking a link he thought was from his bank. He was later contacted by who we thought was a bank employee that tricked him into buying $20,000 Bitcoin and sending it to him.
Birmingham police state that an investigation into the scam is ongoing.
