Car alarm alerts owner of attempted theft

A car alarm around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, June 19, alerted a homeowner in the 1200 block of Davis in Birmingham that someone was trying to steal his vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to the home on a report of a stolen vehicle attempt. The 36-year-old homeowner reported that his vehicle's alarm went off, and upon checking the vehicle, he found the ignition key out of the ignition and on the floorboard.

The victim reported that the ignition key usually remains in the vehicle and the fob is used to start it. The fob was in the possession of the victim at the time of the incident. There was no damage to the vehicle.

The victim believes the vehicle was left unlocked.

Birmingham police report there are no witnesses or suspects at this time.
