Car on fire after crash, driver deceased

The Bloomfield Township Police Department reported that a car which crashed around the ramp from southbound I-75 to westbound Square Lake Road near Opdyke Road around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, left the driver fatally wounded.

Several calls to 911 reported a single car crash in the area of the ramp from I-75 to westbound Square Lake Road. Both Bloomfield Township police and fire personnel responded, where they observed a vehicle off the roadway in a wooded area.

Officers and firefighters reported the vehicle's engine was still running, and the accelerator appeared still depressed. The vehicle was on fire. A 32-year-old man was found by first responders to be deceased in the driver's seat. They reported that no one else was in the car.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Bloomfield Township police is seeking information from anyone who witnessed the crash. Please call sergeant Pete Matejcik at 248.433.7769.
