Car thieves target Birmingham parking lot

Thieves attempting to steal a vehicle from a parking lot in the 35000 block of Woodward in Birmingham fled the scene on Monday, April 5, before officers could locate them, police said.

Officers responded about 11:05 p.m., after receiving a phone call about a possible car theft in progress. The witness told police he was in his residence and heard a loud noise outside. When he looked, he could see two men inside a vehicle with a smashed out window who were attempting to drive in reverse. The witness said the men stopped after 30 seconds, got out and got into a red sport utility vehicle and then headed north on Woodward.

Police said the vehicle’s driver’s side window was smashed out and the vehicle was left running and in neutral. The center console was open and two flashlights that didn’t belong to the owner were found.

Officers were unable to locate any fingerprints. No items were missing.

The men were described as a large white male wearing a black hoodie and an unidentified male.

Birmingham police report the case is under investigation.
