Cash, jewelry taken in Birmingham break-in

Birmingham police are looking for the man who broke into a house on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 8, in the 300 block of Frank Street.

Investigators said the homeowners came home about 4:08 p.m. and found the rear storm door open and the glass entry door shattered. Police checked the inside of the home, which had been rummaged through. Cash and jewelry were missing.

A witness told police a white man wearing a white shirt and black shorts walked up the driveway about 3:30 p.m. He left a short time later from the back door, before a dark colored SUV pulled into the drive. The man then got into the passenger side of the vehicle and left the drive.

A police K-9 unit at the scene was used to search the home and track the man. The dog lost the man’s scent outside in the rain.

Birmingham police report the case is under investigation.
