Child predator sting operation in Birmingham

Birmingham police arrested a 48-year-old Waterford man on Saturday, August 22, who was at a city restaurant with the intention of meeting a 14-year-old-girl for sex, which was part of a sting operation organized by a group that posts such arrest incidents on social media platforms.

According to Birmingham police incident records obtained by Downtown Newsmagazine, women posing as underage girls first made online contact with Michael Tramayne Whittaker-Roundtree on a dating website earlier this summer as part of sting effort by the group Predatorial Investigations Unit, headed by Kenneth Chambers.

The group has successfully pulled off several sting operations targeting child predators in which they then notify local police departments and supply evidence for an arrest for a crime of accosting children for immoral purposes, which is considered a felony. Videos of the arrest are posted on social media under the name of Skeeter Jean.

In the Birmingham incident evidence included a lengthy string of sexually suggestive text messages, including a number in which the female decoy claimed to be the age of 14.

Whittaker-Roundtree appeared in 48th district court where an all-cash bond of $150,000 was set by a magistrate. The bond conditions also included a prohibition against possession of firearms, no internet use and no contact with anyone under the age of 18 years-of-age.
