Multiple residents in Birmingham reported to police on Tuesday, July 15, that they received calls claiming that their parents had been kidnapped and were being held for ransom.
The callers allege that the scam calls appeared to have the same phone number as their parents, and when they called, they requested money from the victim’s account via Venmo.
Birmingham police say an investigation is ongoing.
