Community House Foundation board vacancy

Linda Solomon, a member of the newly formed City of Birmingham Community House Foundation Board, established a little less than two months ago, has resigned.

Birmingham Commissioners accepted Solomon’s resignation during the Monday, August 12, commission meeting and announced the city’s intention to appoint a new member by the end of the month.

In her resignation, included the meeting packet, Solomon said her career and personal life prevent her from committing the time needed as a board member.

“I wish [mayor Clinton Baller and board chair Anthony Long], the City of Birmingham and everyone on the Board of Directors the very best in making sure ‘the heart of Birmingham’ remains a part of all of our hearts,” Solomon wrote. “I love The Community House and will always respect its founders and their mission.”

Solomon was appointed to the board at the June 22 city commission meeting during which the board was established. In her brief tenure as a board member, she helped secure a funding match from Birmingham native and actor Tim Allen. Last month, he offered a dollar-for-dollar match up to $100,000 in donations through the end of the year.

The commission announced the city’s intention to appoint a new member to the board at the end of the meeting. Per the meeting packet, applications are due by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, and interviews will be conducted on Monday, August 24.
