Company scammed after fake texts received

An employee of a business in the 300 block of W. Maple Road in Birmingham was reportedly tricked into buying Apple gift cards on the company credit card on Monday, September 18, leaving the company out of $1,000.

According to the employee, she received a text message from someone posing as her boss, leading her to purchase the gift cards. She later learned she had been scammed.

Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
