Credit cards, cash stolen from unlocked car

A Birmingham resident who had come home on Tuesday, July 18, and failed to lock her vehicle, discovered the following day that someone had stolen her purse, which had $1,000 and a couple credit cards inside.

Around noon on Wednesday, July 19, the victim, a 54-year-old woman who lives in the 900 block of Ridgedale, reported to police that she had not locked her vehicle the previous day when she came home. Unfortunately, she had left her purse inside the unlocked vehicle, and she discovered it was missing, along with $1,000 in cash, a car key and a couple of credit cards.

On Friday, July 21, the woman notified the reporting officer that her purse and belongings were returned to her. She informed him someone had placed the purse and its contents on a chair in her backyard.

Police advised the woman to place a fraud alert on her accounts.
