Credit union stops fraud of Birmingham resident

A Birmingham resident living at the 400 block of Berwyn was saved from identity fraud by his credit union after they denied an application for an auto loan on Saturday, September 2.

According to the victim, he received an email from the credit union the day before stating that someone had tried to apply for an auto loan using his name. The credit union had denied the application and let the victim know about the incident.

The victim froze his credit before any other fraudulent activity was reported.

Birmingham police said an investigation is underway.
