Customer denied booze breaks plexiglass panel

An angry customer at the Speedway gas station, 34800 Woodward Avenue in Birmingham, broke a plexiglass panel and injured a cashier on Friday, April 23, police said.


Birmingham police responded about 10:15 p.m. to the report of an assault spoke with an employee at the gas station who said she was hit in the eye by a customer.


The victim said the man attempted to purchase alcohol, but didn’t have proper identification. When denied the purchase, the man got angry. The victim then asked the man to leave and notified him that she would be contacting police, at which point the man punched the plexiglass barrier, causing it to break, hitting her in the eye.


The man then left the store in an unknown direction.


Birmingham police reported the incident is under investigation.
