Plans to change The Daxton Hotel’s off-street loading area were postponed by the Birmingham City Commission during the Monday, July 28, meeting, following a request from the hotel for additional time.
The Daxton, located at 298 S Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham, is looking to amend their special land use permit and final site plan and design to modify the existing required off-street loading facility. The Daxton Hotel has been operating since 2021 and currently holds a special land use permit to sell alcohol in the building.
Proposed changes include the removal of truck and vehicle access to the current loading area to accommodate new in-house laundry facilities and a trash compactor. The plans received a conditional recommendation from the city’s planning board during the Wednesday, May 28, meeting that required the hotel to get a variance from the board of zoning appeals for one off-street loading space.
During the meeting, planning director Nick Dupuis stated that the postponement request was related to the hotel’s corporate structure and the time they require to review the special venues permit contract. Dupuis added the postponement would be to the commission’s Monday, August 25, meeting.
With little discussion, commissioners unanimously approved the postponement request in a 6-0 vote. Commissioner Andrew Haig was absent from the meeting.
