Day On The Town, Police Open House July 25

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 25, for the largest annual retail event in the city of Birmingham – Day On The Town – often referred to as the day Birmingham goes on sale.

The annual event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on that Saturday and has proven popular for the discounted high-end merchandise that is offered at retail locations and on the streets of the city.

Parking will be free at the five parking structures in the city.

In addition to the shopping bonanza, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Birmingham Police Department will host its annual open house.

The event offers opportunities to register bicycles with the city, safely dispose of prescription medications and pick up free gun safety locks. Police officers will be available to speak with attendees, showcase department resources and distribute giveaways. Visitors can enjoy a drone demonstration and vehicle display, participate in a driving simulator or intoxication goggle activity, and learn about evidence collection and the Adopt a Senior Program. The Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) response vehicle will be there, along with a Benevolent Fund tent and face painting opportunities.

Therapy dogs and mental health co-responders from Oakland Community Health Network will also be on site. Representatives from Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities will share information about programs focused on substance use prevention, wellness and recovery support. First responders from the Birmingham Fire Department will also participate.
