Downtown store hit twice by thieves in one day

On Tuesday, August 13, officers were called to the 100 block of South Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham around 6:30 p.m. for a case of retail fraud.

The store manager reported that two mid-20-year-old females came into the store while police were there already investigating an earlier robbery. The suspects walked around the store until the officers left and then began creating piles of merchandise.

One suspect left the store and moments later the second suspect gathered up the piles and dashed out with $1,650 dollars’ worth of merchandise and got into a waiting vehicle. The vehicle was last seen driving recklessly north on Old Woodward.

In the earlier incident, three young women stole over $2,000 worth of clothes.

Police were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. while the robbery was still in progress. Three young females were reported by the store manager to have entered the store, grabbed armfuls of clothing valued at more than $2,000 and ran out of the store. They got into a vehicle that headed east on Maple.

Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
