Driver hospitalized after car crashes with train

On Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, a 77-year-old Allen Park resident was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a Bloomfield Township crash involving the driver's 2023 Buick and a train.

The crash took place in the area of S. Opdyke Road and Kensington Road that evening, where the train was being operated by the Canadian National Railway Company. The train’s conductor and engineer were not injured and both remained on the scene after the driver was transported to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital by Bloomfield Township Fire Department personnel.

Bloomfield Township police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. They are investigating the incident with CN Police Service.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call 248.433.7755, and request to speak with the department’s Traffic Investigators Unit.
