Drunk man arrested after hitting Uber driver

A drunk man accused of hitting an Uber driver in downtown Birmingham on Tuesday, April 27, was arrested by police for disorderly conduct.

Birmingham police said officers were dispatched about 4 a.m. to Woodward and Landon, where an Uber driver said he was beaten by a customer.

The victim told officers he picked up a 35-year-old Troy man who was extremely intoxicated. The driver said the passenger got irate for no reason and began yelling at him. When he stopped the vehicle to ask the passenger if he wanted to exit or stay and continue the ride, the man allegedly threw a bottle of Powerade at the driver’s head. The driver said the passenger then grabbed his shirt and began hitting him from the back seat before getting out.

Police were able to locate the man on the sidewalk, who refused to cooperate with officers. He was arrested in connection with disorderly conduct.
