Employees accused of embezzling from store

A store director for the St. Croix Shop in downtown Birmingham filed an embezzlement report with Birmingham police on Thursday, April 28, stating two employees had been embezzling from the store.

An officer was dispatched to the menswear store, located at 300 W. Maple Road, where the store director stated that two store employees had been embezzling merchandise, fixtures and money from the store over the past two months.

Witnesses reported to police seeing the employees removing items from the rear of the store and loading them into their personal vehicles on multiple occasions over the past few months.

Both of the individuals are no longer with the company.

Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
