Fire department collecting Toys for Tots
The Birmingham Fire Department is continuing a 15-year tradition of helping economically disadvantaged children enjoy the joy of the holiday season by partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation annual holiday toy drive, now through Friday, December 18, at 9 a.m.
The mission of the Marines Toys for Tots program is to new, unwrapped toys and distribute them to less fortunate children at Christmas. The program was created at the behest of the Marine Corps in 1991. The foundation is assisted by local partners and coordinators throughout the country.
From now until December 18, the Birmingham Fire Department invites the community to participate in the annual collection by donating new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls of all ages. “It brings me so much joy to see the generosity and support of our Birmingham community as the fire station lobbies are filled with toys each year,” said Birmingham Fire Chief Paul Wells.
The fire department will be accepting contactless donations at both firehouses, Station 1 and Station 2.
Station 1 is the Adams Fire Station, which is located at 572 South Adams, between Hazel Street and Bowers Street. Station 2 is the Chesterfield Fire Station, located at 1600 West Maple between Fairfax Street and Chesterfield Street.
