Fire department open house this Saturday

The Birmingham Fire Department will host its annual open house this Saturday, October 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fire Station 1 at 572 South Adams Road.
During this family-friendly interactive event, attendees will enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the fire station while learning about fire safety, participating in demonstrations and enjoying firehouse chili, popcorn and other refreshments.
Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the fire station, explore fire apparatus and equipment, meet firefighters and see live firefighter demonstrations.
In addition to crowd favorites such as operating a fire hose and trying on a fire coat, this year’s event features a charitable gift basket raffle with all donations benefiting the Great Lakes Burn Camp. New this year, the Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority (SOCRRA) will collect household and lithium batteries during the event.
“We look forward to opening our doors and inviting the community in to meet our firefighters and learn more about the work we do,” said Birmingham Fire Chief Matt Bartalino. “Our open house is a great opportunity for residents and families to see our equipment, ask questions, learn about fire safety and get to know the members of their fire department.”
