Fit Body Boot Camp extended hours approved

By Dana Casadei

Fit Body Boot Camp was awarded their request to operate with extended hours after an unanimous vote at the Monday, September 23, Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees meeting.

Fit Body Boot Camp’s requested hours will allow them to be open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday; 5-11 a.m. on Friday; and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. They are planning to be closed on Sunday.

“Apparently, people like to work out at 5 a.m., which is fine,” said Andrea Bibby, deputy director of planning, building and ordinance, which earned a laugh from the board, which voted 7-0, in favor of the extended hours.

Because these hours begin before 7 a.m. – and their location at 1539 Opdyke Road in the B-1 Local Business District – a special land use request needed to be made and brought to the board of trustees for their approval.

Fit Body Boot Camp said their desire to open at 5 a.m. is that they anticipate the first session they offer of the day at 5 a.m. would best meet their clients' needs in the area. Fit Body Boot Camp offers half-hour HIIT-style workouts that are guided by two coaches.

These extended hours will not impact the current parking, circulation, or accessibility to the Bloomfield Hills Shopping Center, and the closet residential area is approximately 240 feet away within Bloomfield’s Fox Hills subdivision.

Within the Bloomfield Hills Shopping Center, Fit Body Boot Camp’s neighbors have varying opening hours, ranging between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. There’s also a Mobil gas station that is open 24 hours nearby.

As for the site itself, the exercise areas of Fit Body Boot Camp will be approximately 2,525 square feet and have 327 parking spaces, an amount that was found to be sufficient to support the existing land uses. There are no exterior improvements or architectural or site modifications being proposed for the space.

The site plan has been reviewed by a variety of Bloomfield Township departments, including fire, engineering and environmental services, and police, none of whom had any objections to the extended business hours proposed by Fit Body Boot Camp.

This site plan and special land use request for extended hours also received a positive recommendation to the board from the planning commission, who voted unanimously in favor to pass on their recommendation at their meeting on Monday, August 5.
