Fleeing motorcycle driver crashes, loses life

A Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer on Sunday, June 1, attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed near northbound Woodward Avenue and Hickory Grove Road but the motorcycle operator fled southbound on Woodward, and the officer was unable to pursue, but eventually the motorcycle was involved in a crash which took the life of the operator.
After the chase was called off, a separate Bloomfield Hills officer observed the suspected motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Woodward approaching Long Lake Road. The Bloomfield Hills officer observed the motorcyclist attempting to disobey multiple traffic control devices. As the motorcyclist attempted to disobey a red light at Long Lake, it collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound on Long Lake Road with the right away. The motorcyclist was ejected and collided with objects in the median, officials said.
Bloomfield Hills DPS personnel attempted to provide emergency medical care and ultimately, the motorcycle operator was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle struck were not injured.
Bloomfield Hills DPS, with the assistance of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team, is investigating this incident. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information or who witnessed this incident is encouraged to contact Bloomfield Hills DPS at 248.644-4200. This incident remains under active investigation.
