Fraudster poses as Best Buy employee

A couple living on the 600 block of Shepardbush Street in Birmingham, were tricked over the phone on Thursday, October 24, by a scammer posing as a member of Best Buy’s Geek Squad.


Both victims told Birmingham police that they were trying to call Best Buy about a TV repair when the employee they were talking to directed them to Geek Squad. The person claiming to be a Geek Squad employee and convinced them to share their driver’s license and Social Security numbers.


They said shortly after, money was being withdrawn from their bank account.


Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
