Global crime ring hits more township homes
An international gang targeting very high-end homes in Oakland County, with break-ins which confiscate luxury purses, jewelry, high end watches and cash, has hit two more homes in Bloomfield Township, according to Bloomfield Township police.
Since late September, the Bloomfield Township Police Department and other Oakland County law enforcement agencies have been investigating a series of home invasions believed to be carried out by individuals from outside Michigan. According to Bloomfield Township Police Officer Nick Soley, “These home invasions appear to target high-end homes around our county.”
Between November 6, 2023, and November 12, 2023, the Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to two home invasions, one in the area of Oxford Court and the other on Charing Cross.
In late September, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, “It appears these are opportunistic crimes, now that we are connecting the dots. They are targeting high-end homes with very high-end valuables and expensive items inside,” which he described as cash, jewelry, high-end watches, purses and even small safes which they can carry. There is not a neighborhood being targeted, but high-end homes.
Law enforcement emphasized that this burglary crew may come in a backyard, and often case out neighborhoods, including gated communities, with wooded areas adjacent. They then pop out a window, which would not typically trigger a motion sensor alarm like opening a window, and wait and see if a light comes on or if an alarm is triggered.
According to Soley, the Oxford Court and Charing Court cases, along with homes broken into in Turtle Lake Estates, are being investigated by the Bloomfield Township Investigations Division. They are working in partnership with surrounding law enforcement communities.
