Grocery employee steals meat, gets arrested

An employee at a Birmingham grocery store was arrested on Saturday, November 6, after allegedly trying to steal nearly $200 in meat, police said.

Birmingham police responded about 6 p.m. to Papa Joe’s, 34300 Woodward Avenue, for the report of a theft. Police spoke with witnesses who told them an employee attempted to take several items from the meat counter out of the store without paying. The employee admitted he didn’t pay for the items.

The man, 30, of Oak Park, was arrested and issued a citation for embezzlement.
