Grocery store theft ends up with arrest

:

A Detroit man was arrested in Birmingham on the night of Thursday, February 27, for stealing roughly $300 worth of merchandise from a grocery store near the 1000 block of Yosemite, after having been initially reported to police for an unrelated incident.

According to the Birmingham police report, a woman called to report the man after he allegedly had been covering up her doorbell camera and trying to steal a dog leash from her property. When he was found by officers, he said that he was looking for a leash that belonged to his friend.

Police then report that they determined he had stolen merchandise from a nearby store, but the report does not indicate how they came to that conclusion. Ultimately, the man was arrested and cited for retail fraud.
