Home health aide arrested for stealing checks

An at home aide working for a 91-year-old Bloomfield Township resident was arrested on Thursday, March 9, after allegedly cashing more than $26,000 in stolen checks from the woman.

Bloomfield Township police said the victim contacted police after noticing several checks were missing from her home in the 4000 block of Brightmore Street. Upon further review, police said the victim found several checks totaling more than $26,000 had been fraudulently made out to and cashed by Bryanna Burton, an aide who was hired to help the victim.

Investigators submitted the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, which subsequently issued an eight-count warrant, including two counts of using a computer to commit a crime; five counts of identity theft; and one count of larceny.

Police said Burton turned herself in at the 48th District Court and was arraigned on all charges, with bond being set at $25,000 bond.
