Home invasion suspect arrested once again
Bloomfield Township police have arrested once again a home invasion suspect who was first arrested in 2024 but had his case dismissed because a witness was not available due to a medical issue.
In June of 2024, the Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to a home invasion in progress in the 3800 block of Carriage Street. A female resident returned home and observed the suspect, later identified as Gregory Benson (34 year-old-male), inside and carrying belongings from the residence. Benson pushed the female victim while attempting to flee from the home.
A witness observed Benson run from the home and enter a Ford Fusion. The witness reported the vehicle to one of the initial responding officers.
Another Bloomfield Township officer who was responding to the scene observed the Ford fleeing from the neighborhood. The officer began following the Ford and attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Telegraph Road and Quarton Road at which time the Ford fled from the officer. A pursuit was initiated and then terminated near the area of Telegraph Rd and 12 Mile Road out of an abundance of caution for the safety of other motorists, police said.
The Bloomfield Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau investigated the home invasion and flee and elude and were able to identify Benson as the suspect. The Oakland County Prosecutor authorized a warrant for charges on October 1, 2024.
Benson was arrested on December 9, 2024, by the United States Marshal Service, and arraigned on December 10, 2024, by 48th District Court Judge D’Agostini. Bond was set at $750,000.
Due to a medical leave of absence of a forensic witness to the investigation, the case was dismissed on June 1, 2026, in Oakland County Circuit Court but on September 16, 2026, the Oakland County Prosecutor reissued charges for Benson.
Benson was arrested on September 23 and arraigned the same day by 48th District Court Magistrate Nelson-Klein. Bond was set at $750,000.
