Homeowner witnesses $75,000 burglary

A home invasion on Monday, January 31, in the 1300 block of Humphrey Road where a burglar stole about $75,000 in personal property, was witnessed by the homeowner, Birmingham police said.

Police responded about 4:54 p.m. to the residence, where the homeowner said an unknown man entered his home through an unlocked door and left several minutes later with his property. According to police, a witness said the man arrived in a white U-Haul van, entered the home and left with a white trash bag or a pillowcase before leaving in the van.

Police said the man was seen wearing a dark blue or black hooded jacket, white medical mask, high visibility yellow gloves, and black shoes with white soles.

The homeowner told police a Rolex watch, Audemars watch, Cartier bracelet, a small safe and several pairs of sneakers, all totaling about $75,000, were stolen.

Birmingham police said the case is under investigation.
