On Monday, December 22, at approximately 1 a.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a hit-and-run incident that just occurred near the 1000 block of Henrietta St.

The victim, a 76-year-old male resident, told officers that his vehicle was unoccupied and parked in front of his home when someone struck it and fled the scene.

Shortly after, Beverly Hills Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle disabled in the roadway. Birmingham officers arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect, a 35-year-old male from Detroit.

While speaking with the suspect, officers immediately observed signs of intoxication. The suspect told officers that his vehicle was involved in the hit-and-run incident that recently occurred. After the suspect failed field sobriety evaluations, he was placed under arrest and issued a citation for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
