After stopping at a gas station on the 30000 block of Woodward Avenue and threatening people with a hammer on the night of Monday, August 11, a Royal Oak man was arrested in Birmingham and cited for operating a vehicle under the influence.
Witnesses told Birmingham police that the man pulled into the gas station, got out of his car, dropped a bag and started threatening people with the hammer when they approached him to help. The man told police a different story, saying he felt threatened by people in another car while he was driving and retrieved the hammer at the gas station when they followed him.
Officers reported that the man had failed a field sobriety test which led to his arrest and citation.
