Kroger manager blocks thief from stealing beer

The Kroger store located in the 600 block of East Maple in Birmingham was the scene of a physical altercation on Thursday, July 18, when the store manager tried to block a thief from taking off with beer.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. to investigate the altercation between the store manager and a man who was attempting to steal a 12-pack of beer. According to all involved, the manager blocked the suspect from leaving. In doing so, he hit the package of beer, breaking the handle and the beer fell to the ground.

Multiple witnesses confirmed that the manager did not touch the 37-year-old St. Clair Shores resident, who had been arrested by Birmingham police the previous evening for disorderly conduct. He was arrested again and issued a citation for retail fraud.
