Liquor stolen from Birmingham grocery store

Roughly $350 worth of tequila was stolen from a Birmingham grocery store, located on the 600 block of East Maple Road, on the night of Saturday, December 21, but was later recovered and the perpetrator arrested by Birmingham police.

Birmingham police were called after a man allegedly left the grocery store with beer and liquor without paying. Officers located the man, a 57-year-old from Harper Woods, at the intersection of Maple Road and Poppleton. They reportedly noticed him walking with a bag and when they asked what was in it, he dropped the bag and ran. Officers were able to catch him and confirmed that the bag held the stolen liquor.

Police also reported finding a crack pipe in the man’s pocket, which led him to be charged with both retail fraud and possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia.
