Local teen scammed on Facebook Marketplace

A sale on Facebook Market place went south when a seller from Birmingham had her items stolen after the buyer didn’t pay up.

The victim, who lives in the 1700 block of Yorkshire, told Birmingham police on Monday, May 29, that she planned to have a buyer pick up the items sold on Facebook Marketplace from her porch. The buyer reportedly told the victim the payment would be left in the mailbox but, according to the victim, the money wasn’t there.

When the victim tried to get ahold of the buyer, she realized the buyer had blocked her on Facebook.

Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
