Mail with check stolen; culprit tries cashing it

Outgoing mail that contained a check was stolen from a Bloomfield Township resident’s mailbox on Tuesday, October 28, and the culprit attempted later to cash the check.
Bloomfield Township police were dispatched to the 6600 block of Cathedral Drive for a larceny from mails report on October 28. The victim reported that on this date between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. she had placed an envelope with a check in the mailbox to be sent out.
At 12:05 p.m. the victim noticed the mailbox was open, the flag was still up, and the envelope was missing. The victim contacted her USPS driver who stated they had not picked up this envelope.
On October 30, an unknown black female attempted to cash the check at a bank in Ferndale.
The case was turned over to the Bloomfield Township Police Investigations Unit and is currently under investigation.
