Man arrested for attempted bank robbery

A Detroit man who smashed his vehicle into a Bloomfield Township bank on Tuesday, February 2, in the 6400 block of Telegraph just north of Maple Road, was arrested for suspicion of attempted bank robbery.

Bloomfield Township police received a call about 2:40 p.m. from a person who said they heard gunshots coming from outside the Level One Bank, 6450 Telegraph Road. Officers quickly arrived on the scene to find a man running from a damaged SUV in the parking lot. Officers caught him without incident.

The driver was wearing a bulletproof vest, gas mask and bulletproof hat.

Police said the initial investigation revealed the man intentionally drove his SUV into the front glass doors of the bank. He then attempted to pull away, but was unable to leave because of the damage to his vehicle.

The man, described only as a 37-year-old Detroit man, was arrested for attempted bank robbery. The Bloomfield Township Police Department is working in conjunction with the FBI on the incident.
