Man caught stealing from two different stores

While talking to a man from Detroit at a bus stop at Woodward Avenue and 14 Mile in Birmingham on Friday, May 17, police officers from both Birmingham and Royal Oak noticed the man had a shopping cart full of stolen beverages totaled at over $500.

Royal Oak police were talking with the man at the bus stop when Birmingham police arrived and began asking him about the cart full of groceries he was pushing. The man, a 28-year old from Detroit, said he found the car left behind Papa Joe’s on the 34200 block of Woodward in Birmingham.

According to police, they also figured out that some of the bottles had been stolen from the Kroger store at the 600 block of East Maple. Kroger informed police that the bottles were approximately $450 and Papa Joe’s said the items were worth about $132.

When they looked further into the man, police also found out that he had multiple warrants from other jurisdictions.

He was arrested by Birmingham police and charged with receiving and concealing stolen property. He was also given a citation for third-degree retail fraud.
