Money stolen in currency exchange scam

:

Birmingham police are investigating two individuals, one male and one female, after performing a currency exchange scam that cost a Birmingham business on the 200 block of E. Merrill Street.

An employee from the business called Birmingham police shortly after the incident took place on Friday, January 31, and reported that the pair entered the business and requested to exchange $4,100 USD for €3,760. The scam started when the two provided fake identification to the employee.

After making the exchange, the pair allegedly changed their minds and wanted to exchange the money back to Euros. The employee only realized the missing currency after the two had left. About €1,360 was missing.

Birmingham police say an investigation is ongoing.
