On Monday, June 16, at approximately 1 p.m., Birmingham police were dispatched to a grocery store in the 600 block of East Maple, where an employee reported that a man just left with a backpack full of liquor without paying.

Officers saw the suspect, a 50-year-old Pontiac resident, place the backpack behind a vehicle in the parking lot and then run away into traffic on Woodward near Maple. Officers captured the suspect on the west side of Woodward and arrested him.

An identification check revealed multiple arrest warrants for the man in three states, including a felony warrant in Oak Park.

The suspect was charged with retail fraud and resisting an officer, and transferred to the custody of the Oak Park Police Department.
