Night at bar leads to unusual events
Birmingham police are investigating a bizarre chain of events that occurred on Thursday, September 2, involving a half-naked man who woke up in a stranger’s car in the 200 block of Frank Street.
Police said the homeowner was told by a painting crew at her home that they had confronted a man who spent the night in her garage, then returned and left a note in her mailbox.
An officer investigating the call checked the scene and retrieved the note from the mailbox, which included the man’s telephone number. The officer spoke to the man, 28, of Birmingham, who told him he had been drinking at The Morrie, 260 N. Old Woodward, the previous night and couldn’t remember what happened between 11 p.m on Wednesday, September 1, and 8 a.m. the following morning.
Police said the man woke up about 8 a.m. inside a Mercedes Benz parked in a garage and was wearing nothing but a shirt. The man told police he was nervous about not wearing pants and still felt “messed up.” Upon locating the keys to the vehicle, he drove the Mercedes to his apartment to change. He said he put about $15 to $20 worth of gas in the car, then parked it in front of the owner’s home. The man told the officer he returned about 1 p.m. to leave a note in the mailbox and retrieve his belongings.
Police said the homeowner was contacted and would like to press charges.
