Off-road vehicle crash proves deadly in township

On Monday, May 8, a Sterling Heights resident lost control of an off-road recreational vehicle in Bloomfield Township, causing him to go airborne and strike a tree.

Bloomfield Township police responded to the crash at a parcel of private property in the area of Wattles and Kensington roads. Upon arrival, the man was transported to Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak. He was unresponsive once he arrived at the hospital and was pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.

While toxicology reports are currently pending, according to police, alcohol does not appear to have played a factor. The 38-year-old male did not have a helmet or seatbelt on at the time of the crash.

The South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT) did a full investigation of the crash.
