Online car deal goes sideways for resident

A 70-year-old male Birmingham resident discovered he was the victim of an online car deal gone wrong.

Officers were called to the lobby of the Birmingham Police Department on Wednesday, August 21, at 11 a.m. to take the fraud report. The victim, who lives in the 600 block of Purdy Street, explained to the officers that he had emailed the suspect about a vehicle and received a price, title and a bank to send the money. After the victim sent the money, he never received the vehicle and has been unable to make contact with the suspect.

The bank account and title given to the resident were both fraudulent.

Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
