Birmingham officials have announced that South Old Woodward Avenue will be completely closed to southbound traffic between Maple Road and Merrill Street in downtown Birmingham starting Monday, September 29, through Sunday, October 5, to allow installation of water service for a fire suppression system in a commercial building under construction at 106 S. Old Woodward.

Northbound through traffic on Old Woodward will be maintained during the closure, and the turn lane for left turns onto Maple from northbound Old Woodward will remain open. On-street parking on the west side of Old Woodward in the construction zone will be prohibited during the project.

The city has recommended using Pierce Street, Peabody or Woodward Avenue as alternate routes.
