Pedestrian hit crossing Woodward in Birmingham

At around 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, a 40-year-old female pedestrian from Oak Park was struck by a vehicle in the Woodward Avenue and Maple Road intersection in Birmingham.

The vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old man from Ferndale, was traveling southbound on Woodward.

According to the Birmingham Fire Department, the pedestrian was walking along the eastbound crosswalk, against the crosswalk signal, while oncoming traffic had a green light. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped to offer aid, fire department officials said. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Drugs and alcohol are not being considered as a factor in the incident, officials said.
