Pedestrian in critical condition following crash
A pedestrian crossing Maple Road southbound, but not in the crosswalk, from the Village Knoll Plaza to the Bloomfield Commons shopping plaza in Bloomfield Township, was struck by a gray Mercedes around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, leaving the pedestrian in critical condition.
The gray Mercedes was traveling eastbound on Maple Road, and the driver remained on scene. According to Bloomfield Township Police Community Relations Officer Nick Soley, the driver was cooperating with the police investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash, Soley said.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old male, was rushed to Corewell Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital by Bloomfield Township Fire Department personnel, where he was last reported to be in critical condition.
Soley noted he was not crossing Maple Road in a crosswalk, which is nearby at Maple and Lahser roads.
Members of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT) were called to respond to the scene to assist with the investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
