Phone scammer tricks woman out of $7,000

Another phone scammer was able to successfully trick a Birmingham resident out of thousands of dollars after posing as a representative from her bank.

The woman said she got the call initially on Wednesday, April 17, and thinking the call was from her bank, released sensitive information to the caller.

On Monday, June 3, the woman filed a report with Birmingham police after the caller allegedly made fraudulent withdrawals from her bank account, with her admitting to police the total withdrawal was estimated at $7,000.

Birmingham police say an investigation is ongoing.
