Police foil garage door repair company scam

:

Birmingham police on Wednesday, February 26, were dispatched to the 2300 block of Yorkshire Road to respond to a complaint of what appears to be a current scam of a false garage door repair company.

The female resident reported that she had called a garage door repair company, but when workers arrived they were in an unmarked van and were not wearing proper uniforms. The workers completed the job but charged an exorbitant amount of money, according to the resident.

Police said that the victim had unknowingly contacted an imposter company from a phone number she found on Google but had not paid the company. As part of the scam, police said, groups intercept calls intended for A1 Garage Door Services.

The police report of the incident said one of the suspicious workers left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived and officers issued the other worker a trespass warning and released him.
