Police interrupt thieves at downtown shop

On Monday, August 19, officers were dispatched at 2 p.m. to the 100 block of S. Old Woodward of downtown Birmingham where a retail fraud was in progress.

Officers had one suspect in custody upon arrival and identified a vehicle the suspects were planning to use as an escape. The suspects, two 19-year-old Detroit females and a 19-year-old Warren female, along with an 18-year-old Detroit male were caught attempting to steal about $455 worth of clothing from an unidentified local retailer. The suspects were placed under arrest.

Birmingham police said an investigation is ongoing.
