Pontiac man arrested in township auto theft

A man accused of driving a Toyota Avalon stolen from a Bloomfield Township gym was arraigned on Thursday, July 15, and held in jail on a $75,000 cash bond.

Bloomfield Township police said George Henry Marshall Parker, 25, of Pontiac was driving the stolen car two days earlier when an Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the car and a short chase ensued. Parker allegedly crashed the car near an apartment complex in Waterford, then got out and ran from authorities. A still photo of Parker obtained from security footage matched the driver.

Police said the car was stolen from the parking lot of L.A. Fitness, 2050 S. Telegraph, on July 7. The victim told police someone entered his locker and stole his keys, then his car.

Parker was arraigned before 48th District Court Judge Marc Barron and charged with one count of unlawfully driving away of an automobile. His bond was set at $75,000 cash, and his preliminary exam is set for Tuesday, July 27.
