Birmingham woman, worrying she was getting scammed, reported calls she received from a court in another district asking her to make multiple small payments on behalf of a relative.

The woman told officers that she was expecting the call regarding payment on behalf of her relative. When she received the call, she attempted to make the $1,500 payment which was initially flagged as fraud. The supposed court representative told her to split the payments, which raised suspicion with the woman who then contacted her bank.

She reported she was reimbursed for part of the money she had sent by her bank.
